Rose Polenzani > That night (after playing badminton badly), Sharon and I were relaxing and watching "Sean of the Dead" when we got a belated text message from Stefano... he'd sent it much earlier in the day, but that's how mobiles work, I guess. Sometimes your message is stuck in queue. We thought they were looking for something to do, so we invited them down to Sharon's mum's house for a game of cards. Meanwhile, Stefano and Natasha had long since gone out for a meandering drive, and found themselves at an intersection marked with the name of the town Sharon's mum lives in. They thought, maybe we should just turn down this road and go see if we can meet up with Sharon and Rose; That is the moment in which they received our invitation. We didn't play cards, but we did decide to go for an outing the next day. There was some discussion and debate over the destination (sharon pushed for the Lakes District, but we thought it was too rainy to bother making the two-hour-plus car ride), and eventually we settled on the Waterfall in Ingleton. I think I have the name of the town wrong, but maybe this can be set in a parallel universe, and then: that's fine.I thought we'd follow normal British custom and walk way up a hill until we reached a waterfall. I forgot the topography of waterfall country. It was a cold, wet, winding path, along which several Waterfalls were coursing in thunderous succession. Maybe 100 yards into the trek we came to this felled tree, into which thousands of Pence coins are pounded.
Rose Polenzani > Another from Hebden Bridge. We played at a beautiful club called the Trades Club. Everyone was so sweet there! When Ian (sound engineer) found out Natasha might show up, he went wild, a huge fan. A group of local musicians were there, and they pulled up a few chairs to our table after the gig, and we kept playing with them for quite a while.
Rose Polenzani > Stefano and Natasha Lea Jones, at our picnic near the tower that overlooks Darwen. Stefano was a true-blue Italian man, and he treated us all like gold. Sweetheart!
Rose Polenzani > Sharon took this photo... we had a barbecue on the beach on our last night in Brighton. I'd never seen a disposable barbecue before! We toasted veggie sausages and fish sticks and ate them with ketchup and onions. delicious.
Rose Polenzani > Me in front of a new building in Manchester. Sharon tells me that a bomb went off in Manchester about a decade ago, and loads of money poured into the town, changing it utterly from the Manchester she knew as a teenager. It's hard to imagine Morrissey wandering these boutique-laden streets. I keep looking for the Salford Lads club.
Rose Polenzani > The day I finally meet Natasha Jones... Stefano (Natasha's close friend in Darwen) took this photo, as we walked up a big hill near moorland and had a picnic. It was sweet to walk ahead of them, knowing that Sharon and Natasha were catching up with each other. The day was beautiful, and they had to tear me away at the end, because I wanted to take another nap on the hillside... I felt like every breath was healing me.
